Biology students demonstrate understanding of innate & adaptive immune responses

In Biology, students demonstrated the viral and bacterial immune response by performing a group role play. They showed how the immune response acts to destroy a particular pathogen and forms a memory of the pathogen for next time

Student Comments:

In Biology this term, we have been studying about the cells and different responses of our immune system. We conducted a class role play to visualise how our first, second and third lines of defences work. Each person was allocated the role of a particular cell and the entire class worked in conjunction until the immune response was complete. Props such as balloons and confetti were used to symbolise pathogens and cytokines respectively. It was a creative idea and very different from our day-to-day Biology class. We were able to effectively learn the roles of different cells in the immune system and how they all worked together. It was definitely a new and enjoyable learning experience.
